What is Kuku?
Kuku is a game designed for children from the age of three, which promotes experimentation and the creation of new figures based on simple and modular pieces. Currently, the animal toy market is focused on already established results from which the child can play. It is a way to enhance the child's creativity, but without giving him/her the total creative freedom he/her needs. Thats why Kuku was born with the intention of letting go of creativity and letting the child choose for himself/herself what outcome he/she wants and what imaginary animal he/she would like to play with. It is a sustainable project whose material is wood, in order to reduce the use of plastic in the toy industry, and to educate the child with natural materials. It could be made also with other sustainable materials, as recycled cardboard pulp. The basic animals chosen are a mix between the typified animals in the children's world, and the incorporation of animals less represented in toys. The toy is intended for children from the age of three, as this is the age to learn new skills and demonstrate dexterity. They begin to imagine possible situations, be curious and develop balance and manual coordination, as well as show interest in visual things and those toys that allow imitations or following instructions. That is why Kuku follows a simple, friendly, neutral and attractive aesthetic that increases the recognition of animals and, at the same time, experimentation to create new ones. It follows a no gender chromatic range chosen to give contrast and draw the child's attention. Animals transmit tenderness and this makes the child comfortable with the toy. The size and shape of the pieces is perfect for this age, as they are not dangerous and are easy to handle, and train the childs balance. Formal minimalism achieves that the animal is identified with the minimum of possible graphic elements recognizable by the child. The toy does not need additional elements to hold the pieces, as these are designed to maintain balance and be stackable, achieving a new imaginary animals made by different parts. In this way small animal totems are created, with unlimited orientation and combinatorial options.
